Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has an almost fully fit squad to choose from for his side's Barclays Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday.

Midfielder Lee Cattermole is the Black Cats' only major doubt as he struggles to recover from the groin injury which has kept him out for the last two matches.

Patrick van Aanholt could keep his place at full-back after an impressive return from injury when he scored the winner in the FA Cup clash with Leeds last weekend.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will not have any of his injured players back in time to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Midfielders Adam Lallana (thigh) and Joe Allen (knee), defenders Glen Johnson (thigh) and Jon Flanagan (knee) and goalkeeper Brad Jones (thigh) all remain sidelined.

Striker Daniel Sturridge is back in the country but still a fortnight away from a long-awaited return from a thigh problem while defender Kolo Toure is on African Cup of Nations duty with Ivory Coast.

Match notes

Liverpool have had a good few weeks results wise and manager Brendan Rodgers will feel far more confident about where his team is heading, even if Steven Gerrard's impending exit casts a long shadow of 2015. Gerrard will want to sign out of Anfield on a high, but Liverpool need to maintain the momentum that has taken then back into European qualification contention. Sunderland, though, are not to be under-estimated. They have a habit of saving their best performances for the big teams and can frustrate anyone.

Referee: Craig Pawson: 15 Y49 R4
Betting: Home 10-3, Away 19-20 Draw 11-5.
Stat: Liverpool have lost just one of their last eight Premier League fixtures.

Luke Edwards's prediction: Sunderland 1 Liverpool 1
