Pardew aiming to end long wait

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Manager Alan Pardew would love his team to be the ones to finally end former Newcastle captain Bob Moncur's long wait for another major trophy at St James' Park.

The Magpies will have little chance to reflect on the 4-1 Barclays Premier League defeat at Arsenal as they prepare for a return to north London for Wednesday's Capital One Cup quarter-final against Tottenham.

Having already won at first Manchester City and then Crystal Palace, hopes are high on Tyneside the current generation can stay on course to emulate the achievements of Moncur's side who lifted the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

Pardew said: "I call him our president, Bob Moncur is on the bus every week to remind me. I can't get away from it, but no-one would be more delighted than Bob if we can achieve something.

"The cup game is something different, we know it's the quarter-final.

"We have beaten two Premier League teams away from home, we have got to do a third time, it will be a tough game, but we will go there very strong.

"The win at Man City did give us energy, it gave us a lift and the win at Palace gave us a lift as well.

"It gives you that spirit to think something can be achieved. It's as important game for Spurs as it is for us. One of us will be in the semi-final, both clubs would love to be in that position."

Pardew does not expect either of injured goalkeepers Tim Krul or Rob Elliot to be back until the start of 2015, so could decide to rest 21-year-old Jak Alnwick with Freddie Woodman, 17, having been on the bench at Arsenal.

Defender Daryl Janmaat will be suspended at Tottenham following his late booking on Saturday, but midfielder Moussa Sissoko and defender Steven Taylor should be available following their respective one-match bans.

Mike Williamson believes Newcastle can go into the quarter-final tie with confidence, having shown good form in recent weeks which included a home win over Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea.

"It would be fantastic for the club to challenge for a trophy," defender Williamson said.

"We will get back to the drawing board (after Arsenal) and if we turn up and make sure we do the basics, we will fancy our chances. It will be tough, but we are confident.

"It is something exciting to be part of and builds confidence. We want to carry this on in the league.

"It is a huge game for us. A win would give us positivity, confidence and momentum.

"Everyone will be pushing. We want to get to the semi-finals."

Pardew: Chelsea's run will end

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew believes it will be "impossible" for Chelsea to remain unbeaten in all four major competitions this season.

Jose Mourinho's men maintained their unbeaten start to the current campaign by brushing aside Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Ahead of Chelsea's visit to St James's Park on Saturday, Pardew hailed the quality of Mourinho's men but said they were bound to slip up sooner or later.

Pardew said: "I think it's difficult - obviously Arsenal have done it and Chelsea have come pretty close before.

"But not in all competitions - that is impossible and I think Jose has admitted that. But they're making a very good job of it at the moment.

"It's the best Chelsea team that I've ever seen and I've watched them since I was about 12 so I know them pretty well. I think Jose is pretty pleased with what he's got."

Pardew is hopeful captain Fabricio Coloccini will be able to make a return on Saturday after missing the best part of a month with a calf problem.

Coloccini has been training with his team-mates this week but Pardew must decide whether he is ready for what is likely to prove one of the toughest possible tests.

Pardew added: "Coloccini has been on the training ground but whether he's got enough fitness levels to play a game of this level I don't know.

"I can't really give a clear message. I'm not trying to hide behind anything but we have had recovery time and I can't really give a clear indication of how the players are."

Tiote says sorry

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote has issued an apology after being reprimanded by his club for being videoed driving with an open bottle of champagne in his hand.

The 28-year-old, who is understood to have been filmed while in his native Ivory Coast, apologised after the images were published by a national newspaper.

Tiote said: "I deeply regret my actions and I am sorry for any offence caused. I realise that as a professional footballer, I have a responsibility to many people, including the club and its supporters and it is important for me to set a good example to others with my behaviour on and off the pitch."

The player has been reminded of his responsibilities by the club, which said in a statement: "Newcastle United have been made aware of a video of Cheick Tiote driving whilst holding a bottle of alcohol, which is understood to have been filmed in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

"Clearly his actions were not appropriate. The club have spoken privately with Cheick today and reminded him of his significant responsibilities as a representative of Newcastle United and a role model."

De Jong back in training

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Newcastle midfielder Siem de Jong is on the comeback trail after resuming light training.

The 25-year-old Dutchman has been sidelined since September, when he was ruled out by the Magpies for "a number of months" because of a thigh injury.

However, he tweeted on Tuesday: "Finally my boots back on! First session outside."

De Jong, a £6million summer signing from Ajax, played only three competitive games for the club before misfortune struck, and it did so at the worst possible time for manager Alan Pardew.

The Holland international had been recruited to provide the link between midfield and attack, and he headed for the treatment room with the club in the midst of a dreadful run of form which left Pardew under extreme pressure.

However, in his absence, De Jong's team-mates have forged a remarkable recovery which saw them claim a sixth successive victory, five of them in the Barclays Premier League, over QPR on Saturday, a return which has seen them climb into the top five.

Despite his return to the training pitch, the midfielder, who was initially ruled out of action until after Christmas, still faces several weeks working his way back to full fitness.

Pardew praises patient fans

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was glad his side's fans stuck it out at Turf Moor long enough to see Remy Cabella inspire a second-half comeback against Burnley.

The Clarets had much the better of the first half but went into the break just one goal up courtesy of George Boyd's 20-yard strike.

Pardew admitted he would hardly have forgiven the travelling contingent had they made an early exit, but rewarded their perseverance with a double change at the interval - Cabella for Ayoze Perez and Steven Taylor for Mike Williamson.

The latter stabilised things at the back but it was the number 10 who did most to lift the visitors to a 1-1 draw.

He was heavily involved in Newcastle's 48th-minute equaliser, eventually turned home by Papiss Cisse, and kept Burnley on their toes for the remainder of the match.

The former Montpellier playmaker has largely frustrated since his summer arrival but Pardew was happy to see him thrive.

"I was pleased to see our fans had stayed for the second half because the last 20 minutes of the first half were tough to watch," he said.

"The biggest difference was Cabella, he really gave us some technical ability and produced a really great second half or us.

"That's really good news because we've been waiting for him to come alive a little bit for us.

"It's been a slow burn for Remy but he changed this game for us."

The 24-year-old's slender frame and subtle style hardly make him the ideal candidate to shine on a cold night in the north west, but Pardew was delighted with his inversion of the stereotype.

He added: "They are the sort of question marks you throw against eight stone Frenchmen but he played like the front row of a rugby team for us and took the game by the scruff of the neck with his technical ability.

"He's not going to be a dominant force physically in the Premier League, so he has to be a David Silva. He has to get on the ball, run at people, create things.

"And he did that. He was instrumental."

Home boss Sean Dyche refused to get carried away despite watching his side use the point earned to climb out of the relegation zone, at the expense of Hull.

The Clarets are now unbeaten in four games having followed up back-to-back wins with consecutive draws.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm not playing it down, I'm just being honest," he noted.

"It's a relentless, unforgiving division.

"It's the same mantra as last season: look at one game at a time, focus on it, make sure you're ready for that one, evaluate it after the event and move on to the next one.

"We like that mantra and that's the way we work.

"We've got to keep turning so-nearlies into actuals but there's certainly life in these performances.

"That journey (beating the drop) is a different one and it's important we do what we have done all season and focus on performances.

"Every game we have to deliver."

Taylor calls for Toon to tighten up

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Steven Taylor thinks Newcastle will lose again on Sunday if they do not tame the "beast" that is Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.

The pressure is back on Alan Pardew after his team stretched their losing streak to four matches in all competitions with a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United on Boxing Day.

Ayoze Perez and Daryl Janmaat had chances to score for the Magpies and the visitors were unlucky not to be given a penalty in the first half when Juan Mata tripped Yoan Gouffran.

Sloppy defending allowed United to bag all three points, much to Taylor's dismay.

The Newcastle defender felt his team-mates were too much in awe of the stellar cast of players on show for United.

"We made it far too easy for them. We showed them too much respect," Taylor said.

"We should have been right in their faces and put a few tackles in during the first five or 10 minutes like we did against Chelsea.

"We need to put pressure on the opposition. We need to test them out.

"If you give them that much respect, anyone can look good and we made them look good."

A repeat performance against Everton, could prove costly, according to Taylor.

The Toffees suffered a shock home defeat to Stoke on Boxing Day, but the Toon centre-back is wary of the talented players Roberto Martinez has at his disposal - chief among them Lukaku.

"He is an absolute beast - a top player," Taylor said of the big Belgian.

"And they have players like (Ross) Barkley, another top player.

"They have good players left, right and centre that will hurt you if you give them time on the ball, so it's up to us to stand up and put our head in the way."

Midfielder Cheick Tiote returns from suspension for the clash.

Goalkeepers Tim Krul (ankle) and Rob Elliot (thigh) are out and there are doubts over midfielders Mehdi Abeid (toe) and Siem de Jong (thigh), who missed the 3-1 Boxing Day defeat to Manchester United.

Rolando Aarons (hamstring), Gabriel Obertan (thigh) and Ryan Taylor (knee) remain on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Everton boss Roberto Martinez feels the way his side now react to suffering their first back-to-back Barclays Premier League losses this season will be vital to how their campaign pans out overall.

After being beaten 3-0 at Southampton last Saturday and then 1-0 at home by Stoke on Boxing Day, the Toffees - who came fifth last term and had been targeting the Champions League places this time around - are 12th in the table, 11 points off the top four.

They have only won one of their last six league games, with four of those ending in defeat, and struggled to create much going forward in what was a physical encounter with the Potters.

And ahead of the trip to St James' Park, the Spaniard said: "I don't think in general we are lacking confidence, but I think this is a moment of the season that is pivotal for us - seeing how we can react.

"The reaction now has to be that we make sure we know what we are doing.

"We have a real understanding of how to perform and if we can keep that, the results will come.

"But football gives you these sorts of challenges, and this is the challenge of the season.

"We need to make sure we get through this period stronger than ever, and that could really give us a very strong second half of the season."

Goalkeeper Tim Howard and skipper Phil Jagielka were forced off at half-time due to calf and ankle problems respectively and look likely to miss the Newcastle game.

Additionally, Jagielka's fellow centre-back John Stones and winger Kevin Mirallas are doubtful due to knocks they picked up in the Boxing Day match.

The fixture also saw forward Steven Naismith receive a fifth Premier League booking of the season, meaning he will be suspended for Sunday's encounter.

No injury respite for boss Pardew

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew will have little respite on the injury front as he attempts to bounce back from the disappointment of derby defeat at Manchester United on Boxing Day.

The 53-year-old saw his side lose out to arch-rivals Sunderland for the fourth time on the trot, something they had never done before, at St James' Park on Sunday as a bad week came to the worst possible conclusion.

Pardew went into the derby with a host of key players unavailable to him, with both his senior keepers, Tim Krul and Rob Elliot, as well as full-back Davide Santon, midfielders Siem de Jong, Gabriel Obertan, Ryan Taylor and Rolando Aarons injured and striker Papiss Cisse struggling for match fitness after knee surgery and a virus.

There is now light at the end of the tunnel with several of those men closing in on returns, but none of them are likely to make the busy holiday programme, which gets under way at Old Trafford on Friday.

Asked if he feared the season could peter out as it did last year, Pardew said: "We have got good players and good young players, and some big senior players to return.

"We are waiting for Tim Krul and Rob Elliot, we have Siem de Jong, who hasn't played a game for us, Rolando Aarons to return, so we have still got some big, big players to come back into this group, so that's not a concern.

"Davide Santon is getting closer, another player who is very important and technically improves us because he keeps the ball, Davide, and that's something that in the second half of the season we have two areas to improve on, retention of the ball and goalscoring."

Another man who could yet have a role to play is midfielder Jonas Gutierrez, who made a welcome return to competition action for the club's Under-21s side on Monday afternoon after winning his battle with testicular cancer.

The Argentina international, a hugely popular figure both within the camp and among the Toon Army, still has a way to go, but Pardew was delighted to see him back in a black and white shirt.

He said: "It's been a long, long road with the diagnosis he had, so we're overjoyed. We had lots of media wanting to have a piece of that game, but we're trying to give him some space to get back to his best. He's working his way towards that.

"I don't think he'll feature in this Christmas period, but certainly by the end of January and into February, I think he'll be looking to push on.

"He is fit, it's just getting used to the ball again, seeing a game scenario and getting back up to speed. Where he's at, he's actually physically fine. I don't think it'll take him too long - maybe even quicker than I'm suggesting."

Gutierrez's return came barely 24 hours after the derby setback which left a pall over St James', although Pardew will not allow his players to dwell on it.

He said: "We have to move on, it's as simple as that. We can't dwell on it. It was a performance that was pretty good, but it wasn't enough.

"I have just kept them away from the training ground. They have come in today and we will have a warm-down today, so I haven't really seen them, to be honest."

Pardew urges Taylor to stay calm

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has ordered Geordie boy Steven Taylor not to allow the derby atmosphere to get to him as he plots victory over Sunderland.

The Magpies head into Sunday's pre-Christmas showdown at St James' Park desperately looking to avoid a fourth successive defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals and intent on righting the wrongs of back-to-back 3-0 home defeats at the hands of the Black Cats with a victory.

Pardew's current squad, despite its cosmopolitan nature, has the most sizeable home-grown contingent the club has been able to boast for some time, and while the manager insists that will not necessarily be a factor in the game, he admits he may have to instruct one or two of the locals to curb their enthusiasm.

He said: "If I'm honest, I don't think it's a factor in the game, but I will be looking at one or two who maybe get emotionally involved.

"Probably the one who worries me the most is Steven Taylor. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he plays like that sometimes in this fixture.

"I've spoken to him about it. I think this time around he will be a lot calmer and if he plays, he will be in better shape."

Central defender Taylor has been a target for some Sunderland fans ever since he offered a less than complimentary assessment of their squad in a pre-derby interview in October 2012, although he appears to revel in role of pantomime villain.

However, both sets of fans and the two clubs have worked hard to try to take some of the poison out of a fixture which has too often boiled over off the pitch in recent times.

Bridges have been built in the wake of the MH17 Malaysia Airlines disaster in which Newcastle supporters John Alder and Liam Sweeney were among 298 passengers and crew to lose their lives, with Black Cats fans raising more than £33,000 for a memorial.

Pardew, who revealed his players will not be bussed into the ground as they have been for recent derbies, said: "We are trying to get away from all that unsavoury stuff.

"They have come across the bridge from Sunderland and you have to pay credit to them for what happened over John Alder and Liam Sweeney.

"I would like to think we would meet them there and treat this as exactly what it is - a football match. I've tried to follow the pattern of the security, the police and fans and everything said online.

"We won't take a bus to the game this time, we will turn up as normal and hopefully it will be a fantastic football match, although the passion will be no less, the intensity will be no less, which makes it unique in itself, more than any game I've ever played in or managed.

"Therefore, whatever the result, we will shake hands."

Pardew will hope to shake hands with opposite number Gus Poyet with a smile on his face after having had to swallow the disappointment of home defeat to Sunderland in each of the last two seasons, although he is convinced the current crop of Magpies will not be caught out this time around.

He said: "They (Sunderland) are very well organised and average two passes before they score, which tells you that they capitalise if you make a mistake.

"If ever there was a template of why they won the games against us, it's that. They punished us, and we can't afford to make those mistakes."

Meanwhile, Pardew revealed that midfielder Jonas Gutierrez will play for the reserves on Monday as he works his way back to match fitness following his return from treatment for testicular cancer.

He said: "The changing room is now getting changed to a samba beat, with Jonas singing at the top of his voice and walking around naked as normal. It's great to have him back."

"Therefore, whatever the result, we will shake hands."

John O'Shea will run out into the white heat of the Tyne-Wear derby having already had a taste of the fierce rivalry this week.

The Sunderland skipper will lead his team out at St James' Park on Sunday looking for an unprecedented fourth successive victory over neighbours Newcastle in a game which could go a long way to determining how enjoyable Christmas is for the respective clubs' supporters.

But O'Shea and his team-mates have already been left in little doubt as to what is expected by both sets of fans after their traditional hospital visits on both Wearside and Tyneside in the last few days.

The 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international said: "We went on the hospital visits and it's brilliant seeing the kids in their particular colours whatever hospital we were in, some Sunderland, some Newcastle.

"We went to the RVI [Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary] to the kids' part and the cancer wards, and the cheer that some of the fans get from seeing us, but also the grief we get as well is brilliant and it puts a big smile on our faces and makes you appreciate what you have in your family when they are happy and healthy, especially at a time like this.

"It could be a kid who's gone through a terrible time and had some operations and what have you, and he is just looking at you and saying, 'Look, get a win', or a kid saying, 'I hope you lose at the weekend', whatever the case may be.

"It's a very humbling experience. It's one of those things that does make you realise that football is very important, but there are also some other very important things in life as well."

Pardew postpones anniversary party

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew will put any anniversary celebrations on hold as he seeks to secure what would rank as one of the most famous wins of his turbulent reign at St James' Park.

Next week will mark four years since Pardew succeeded Chris Hughton as Magpies boss despite many - perhaps sometimes even Pardew himself - predicting he would never survive to see such a milestone.

But a run of just one Barclays Premier League defeat in nine has lifted much of the immediate pressure off Pardew's shoulders and convinced him his side can rise to the occasion and become the first this season to sink Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.

Pardew said: "I haven't really thought about it (the anniversary) at this stage because this game takes precedence over anything like that and I will probably review it some other time.

"As a coach it's the same as the players - you've got to rise to the occasion and I can't wait for the game and I hope the players are feeling the same way.

"Getting on the same pitch as the likes of (Eden) Hazard and (Diego) Costa and (Cesc) Fabregas is fantastic and you've got to raise your game. If you are not going to get inspired by that then don't play."

Newcastle's dramatic recent revival has stalled slightly with defeat at West Ham and a frustrating midweek draw at Burnley but Pardew is boosted by the return of Moussa Sissoko - who scored the winner against Chelsea two seasons ago - and Jack Colback for the Saturday lunchtime clash.

But he has injury worries elsewhere with goalkeeper Tim Krul ruled out until the new year with an ankle injury and captain Fabricio Coloccini unlikely to be risked as he struggles for match fitness following his return from a hamstring strain.

Pardew's survival against the odds this season is exemplified in the way his players have battled back from a dismal start to the campaign and fostered the kind of team spirit that he believes will ensure they continue to improve.

And it means he has no fears about taking the game to a Chelsea side he believes is probably the best he has seen since he grew up watching the club in his youth.

Pardew added: "I think mentally we're in a strong position and our confidence is high - we've had one defeat in nine and we have a good kind of spirit and we're still learning lessons along the way.

"We learned at Burnley that you have got to put the ball at risk and take chances in the game and that even against the so-called lesser opposition you still have to take risks.

"Especially against Champions League teams, if you're not going to take risks you're not going to make forward runs and you're not going to threaten the opposition and you'll get beaten, so we need to threaten against Chelsea."

While Sissoko's return is especially timely, Pardew is also counting on the continued improvement of striker Papiss Cisse, who struck his fifth goal of the season to rescue a point at Turf Moor on Tuesday.

Pardew added: "Papiss is a goalscorer and scoring goals breeds confidence, of course. He is a player who has five goals in the Premier League and he's probably only had eight chances.

"That's Papiss - he has a good consistent strike rate when he gets the chances."

Mourinho believes Newcastle reserve the "game of their lives" for his Chelsea side, but "look like they are playing friendlies" against other Barclays Premier League rivals.

The former Real Madrid boss will chase a first league win as Chelsea boss at St James' Park on Saturday, confirming Diego Costa will start up front after suspension.

Spain hitman Costa missed Wednesday's 3-0 Stamford Bridge victory over Tottenham, with Didier Drogba and Loic Remy both on target.

Even with the return of their prolific summer signing, though, Mourinho knows his runaway league leaders face a tough test at Newcastle - where the Blues can set a new club-record of 24 games without defeat.

"When they see the Chelsea shirts they play the game of their lives, and against other teams they look like they are playing friendlies," said Mourinho.

"It's difficult; it's a difficult stadium to play (in).

"Maybe this is because Chelsea in the last decade has become a strong team that everyone wants to beat."

Brazil-born Costa has already racked up 12 goals in 17 games this term since joining from Atletico Madrid, and Mourinho believes the 26-year-old merits an immediate return.

"Diego," said Mourinho when asked who would start at Newcastle, before shaking his head to play down Remy's St James' Park connection.

Mourinho has already confirmed 36-year-old Drogba's long-term future is in his own hands at Chelsea, but said he cannot comment on the Ivorian's potential as a coach.

"I don't know his qualities as a coach because I never saw him coach," said Mourinho, who wants Drogba to remain at Stamford Bridge when he retires.

"For me that's a new story.

"My personal story is that he is still a very good player, and if he wants my advice in the future I think he should stop when he wants, when he feels. Not be waiting for me to decide or the club to decide.

"We love him, we want him: he's a great football player and should stop when he wants.

"After that I know (Chelsea owner Roman) Mr Abramovich is very happy to keep him in the club in every area where he feels and we feel he is useful and happy.

"But that's after he makes a decision to stop his career."

Chelsea make the trip north on the back of a phenomenal run of form which has seen them win 16 of their 21 games in all competitions this season, while drawing the other five. The Blues were also unbeaten in their final two games of last season, setting up the chance for a club record this weekend.

However, that is of no interest to Mourinho, who said he will continue to chase trophies over setting records at Chelsea this term, while suggesting his players are probably not even aware of the fact they could break new ground if they return from Newcastle unbeaten.

"They don't know the record: I don't think they know," said Mourinho.

"If you don't tell me 20 times I wouldn't know.

"I don't care about records.

"The record I want is to win the Premier League three times at this club, that's all I want.

"I'm not looking for records, I'm looking for points, victories and points, and if possible at the end of the season, titles.

"As a consequence of that, but as I was saying, I'm not concerned with that.

"We just want to win the next match, that's all.

"The only thing that matters for me in the Premier League is that I've won the title twice."

Johnson strike settles derby

Adam Johnson condemned Newcastle to a fourth successive derby defeat for the first time in their history as Sunderland snatched a dramatic last-gasp 1-0 victory at St James' Park.

The winger struck in the 90th minute to settle a rip-roaring encounter which might have gone either way until his intervention.

It was no more than Gus Poyet's men deserved after creating the better chances on an afternoon when they collected just their third Barclays Premier League win of the season.

Black Cats striker Steven Fletcher was denied by the crossbar before the break and Connor Wickham, Jordi Gomez and Johnson all passed up glorious opportunities to open the scoring.

But goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon had to pull off fine second-half saves from Ayoze Perez and Moussa Sissoko as the Magpies threatened to end their run of defeats before Johnson dashed their hopes in front of a passionate crowd of 52,315.

Sunderland were dealt a significant blow before kick-off when full-back Anthony Reveillere limped out of the warm-up with a calf injury.

Poyet replaced the Frenchman with central defender Sebastian Coates and asked skipper John O'Shea to start at left-back, and the visitors looked understandably shaky as their hosts flew out of the blocks.

However, for all their possession and the driving efforts of Sissoko and lively lone striker Perez, they were unable to trouble Pantilimon to any extent until Sissoko exchanged passes with Sammy Ameobi and drilled in a low 14th-minute effort.

But as the initial onslaught abated, Sunderland found their feet at the back to give the men ahead of them a platform to start creating, and it was they who settled into the better rhythm with striker Fletcher giving them an outlet with the commendable assistance of wide man Wickham.

The England Under-21 international perhaps should have scored with a header from Johnson's 23rd-minute free-kick, and Fletcher was unfortunate not to do so three minutes later when he got ahead of defender Steven Taylor to sidefoot Sebastian Larsson's whipped cross against the bar.

Wickham forced a fingertip save from rookie goalkeeper Jak Alnwick on the half-hour after unleashing a fierce drive and after Perez had sent Pantilimon scuttling across his goal with a curling effort, headed straight at the 21-year-old from Santiago Vergini's delivery.

But despite all the endeavour, a half which brought five bookings ended goalless with the Black Cats leaving the field ahead on points.

The visitors resumed in confident fashion with Newcastle still struggling to find a real coherence, and their fortunes could have taken a turn for the worse five minutes into the second half had it not been for Taylor's bravery.

Wickham did superbly to recycle the ball and clip a cross to the far post, where the defender managed to get there marginally before Fletcher before colliding in sickening fashion with the upright and suffering a head wound in the process.

The visitors should have taken the lead while Taylor was being patched up off the pitch when Fletcher handed Gomez the chance to make a name for himself on Wearside, but the midfielder sidefooted wastefully wide.

Pardew replaced Yoan Gouffran with youngster Adam Armstrong with 31 minutes left on the clock, but it was full-back Daryl Janmaat who took aim at the Sunderland goal seconds later, although his left-foot strike flew well wide.

But Perez came desperately close to opening the scoring when he dispatched Sissoko's 63rd-minute pass towards the top corner only to see Pantilimon pull off a superb one-handed save.

Sissoko failed to connect with Ameobi's 67th-minute cross after turning neatly inside his own half and sprinting upfield to play in the wide man, and Armstrong was denied by Pantilimon after Perez and the increasingly influential Sissoko had combined to set him up five minutes later.

Armstrong fired straight at the Romanian goalkeeper once again after creating space for himself 16 minutes from time, and it was then that Pardew chose to send on striker Papiss Cisse for defensive midfielder Cheick Tiote.

The visitors might have gone ahead with 13 minutes remaining when Wickham picked out Johnson and he stepped inside Fabricio Coloccini only to then stab his shot wide.

But the winger made amends with seconds of normal time remaining when, having held off Sissoko and stayed on his feet to spark a pacy counter-attack, he collected substitute Will Buckley's lay-off and thumped the ball past the helpless Alnwick.

Newcastle break losing run

Papiss Cisse's fifth goal in six games launched a Newcastle fightback as they ended a four-match losing streak with a 3-2 victory over Everton.

The Senegal international cancelled out Arouna Kone's fifth-minute opener - his first for the club on his first Barclays Premier League start for the club he joined during the summer of 2013 - with a close-range finish 11 minutes before the break .

However, Toffees boss Roberto Martinez may feel the African Cup of Nations-bound frontman was lucky to still be on the pitch after appearing to catch full-back Seamus Coleman with a flailing arm four minutes earlier, and there may yet be repercussions with referee Craig Pawson having taken no action at the time.

But if it was Cisse who started the ball rolling, it was Ayoze Perez and Jack Colback who completed the job with the Spaniard's fifth goal for the club giving them a 51st-minute lead which was cemented by Colback's first in a black and white shirt 16 minutes later, although substitute Kevin Mirallas' late strike made for a tense conclusion.

Newcastle ran out in front of a crowd of 52,313 having lost their last four games in all competitions, three of them in the Barclays Premier League, a run which included a 1-0 derby defeat by Sunderland in their last home fixture.

With some bookmakers having stopped taking bets on Alan Pardew being appointed the next Crystal Palace manager, there was an air of uncertainty around St James' Park before kick-off, although the 53-year-old and his players were concentrating simply on the 90 minutes ahead.

They were boosted by the Everton team-sheet, which showed seven changes, many of them enforced by injury and suspension, to the side which lost 1-0 at home to Stoke on Boxing Day, although it was the visitors who started much the brighter.

They got their reward with just five minutes gone when Aiden McGeady slid the ball into the space where full-back Paul Dummett should have been for Seamus Coleman to leave Yoan Gouffran in his wake and cross for Kone to convert from close range with central defenders Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson looking on in horror.

The Magpies were simply not at the races as Gareth Barry was allowed to orchestrate from the middle of the park, and when they finally managed to string two passes together, Moussa Sissoko's touch deserted him in spectacular style as he ran on to Cisse's 12th-minute flick.

However, they gradually worked their way into the game, although without being able to find the required quality in the final third with keeper Joel Robles untroubled.

Coleman was left on his backside and claiming bitterly to the referee after clashing with Cisse as the pair awaited the delivery of a set-piece, and replays suggested the defender might have had a point about the striker's swinging arm.

He was even more aggrieved four minutes later when the striker fired the home side level, reacting first when Williamson turned Cheick Tiote's cross back across goal to beat Robles.

Martinez replaced James McCarthy with Ross Barkley before the restart, and it took the newcomer just three minutes to embark upon a trademark run upfield, although his pass to Kone was poor.

But it was Robles' goal which came under threat two minutes later with the keeper turning the ball aside after it ricocheted off Gouffran's shins, although his relief was only momentary as Tiote picked out Perez on the left and he cut inside Distin before thumping a shot through Coleman's legs and into the bottom corner.

The home side were growing in confidence, but they could not afford to relax and they were grateful to see Samuel Eto'o sky a 64th-minute effort high over after Leighton Baines had out-fought Tiote on the sideline.

But the visitors fell further behind three minutes later when Barkley failed to cut out Daryl Janmaat's cross and Colback stabbed the ball past Robles to make it 3-1.

Mirallas reduced the deficit with six minutes remaining when he got behind a static Newcastle defence to stab Baines' long ball past the advancing Jak Alnwick, but that was as good as it got for the Merseysiders as they slipped to a third successive defeat.

Taylor rues another derby defeat

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Devastated defender Steven Taylor has admitted Newcastle had only themselves to blame for an unprecedented fourth successive derby defeat by Sunderland.

Sunday's high-octane clash at St James' Park looked to be heading for a first goalless draw since May 1990 when Adam Johnson settled it with a 90th-minute winner, his third goal in as many visits to Tyneside.

Victory was little more than the Black Cats deserved after creating the better chances throughout the game, but it arrived with the Magpies on top and pushing for a winner of their own.

Taylor said: "We can't believe it. We were looking at the clock and thinking it would be a draw.

"We were just looking to see the game out.

"Maybe we got a bit carried away. Sometimes you have to shut the back door. It came from our own set-piece so we only have ourselves to blame.

"I just can't believe it's another season that we have been beaten."

Newcastle went into the game desperate not to set a new record for consecutive Tyne-Wear derby defeats and knowing they had a debt to repay to their fans after losing to last two editions on their own pitch 3-0.

On a day when both sets of fans put aside their fierce rivalry momentarily - the travelling supporters joined in the 17th-minute applause for John Alder and Liam Sweeney, who died in the MH17 Malaysia Airlines disaster, and their Newcastle counterparts acknowledged their efforts in raising more than £33,000 for a memorial 16 minutes later - the home side started as if they meant business.

However, the initial flurry, during which a Black Cats defence shorn of the services of specialist full-back Anthony Reveillere - he had damaged a calf muscle during the warm-up - was at sixes and sevens, failed to produce tangible reward and Gus Poyet's men responded in concerted fashion.

As Sebastian Larsson and Jordi Gomez started to gain the upper hand in the middle of the field, Steven Fletcher clipped the crossbar with a side-footed effort and Connor Wickham forced a good save from rookie keeper Jak Alnwick, who did not wilt in the heat of the derby atmosphere.

Gomez and Johnson both passed up glorious opportunities to give the visitors the lead, but in the meantime, Sunderland keeper Costel Pantilimon needed every bit of his 6ft 8in frame to get to Ayoze Perez's 63rd-minute shot as it curled towards the top corner.

But with the clock running down, Johnson held off Moussa Sissoko inside his own half and then set off towards the Gallowgate End goal, finding Fletcher before making his way into the box to dispatch substitute Will Buckley's lay-off from the Scotland international's pass.

Taylor, who had two stitches put into a head wound after a nasty collision with the post as he denied Fletcher a certain goal, was left to rue a lack of cutting edge at the other end of the pitch.

He said: "We had the chances. Everything was at the keeper - straight at him. Two or three yards either side of him is a different ball game.

"We are gutted with that, but Adam Johnson is a top-class player and he proved that today."

Gutierrez to play in U21 fixture

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Jonas Gutierrez is set to feature in an under-21 fixture having returned to training following his battle with testicular cancer, Newcastle have announced.

The 31-year-old was diagnosed in 2013 and underwent surgery in his native Argentina before moving on loan to Norwich for the remainder of last season.

Gutierrez did not make his health issues public until September and since then he has been discharged from hospital and has begun training - with the club confirming he is set to play some part in a Under-21 Premier League Cup tie against West Ham on Monday afternoon.

Newcastle, who lost 1-0 to fierce rivals Sunderland on Sunday, published an article on their official website revealing the former Real Mallorca man would be turning out.

"Jonas Gutierrez will make his comeback for Newcastle United in Monday's Under-21 Premier League Cup last 16 tie against West Ham United (kick-off 1pm)," it read.

"The Argentine ace returned to Tyneside earlier this month after overcoming cancer and, having taken part in training in recent days, will now make his playing comeback against the Hammers as an over-age player at Whitley Park.

"Ironically, Gutierrez made his last appearance in black and white in the same competition just under a year ago, when United beat Leicester City 2-1 at the same venue."

Despite moving on loan to Carrow Road last year, Gutierrez has been assured of a role in Newcastle's first-team by manager Alan Pardew.

"We're pleased to have him back," Pardew said of the Argentina international last week.

"Jonas is one of those people who livens up the training ground just with his personality, and obviously his illness has magnified that fact. He hasn't been around much but he's in pretty good shape and we are hoping that in two or three weeks he could be back in and around the first team.

"He's keen to earn his right to play but, like any player here, I have to give him an even keel in terms of access to the first team. It's now up to Jonas but it will certainly be emotional for us and for him when he returns, and we will look forward to it."

Super-sub Cisse eyes starting berth

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Newcastle match-winner Papiss Cisse knows his heroics against Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea will not necessarily guarantee him a place in Alan Pardew's starting line-up.

Cisse, who scored the Magpies' equaliser at Burnley in midweek, came off the bench to fire them to a 2-1 victory over the previously unbeaten Blues with a second-half double at St James' Park on Saturday.

Having started the game at Turf Moor, the Senegal international found himself back among the substitutes as he continues his recovery from surgery to repair his fractured kneecap with Pardew carefully managing him.

Cisse understandably wants to play every game, but he is not going to fall out with his boss as he attempts to force his way back into the XI for next weekend's trip to Arsenal.

He said: "I feel fit. I'm good. I just need to keep going in the gym all the time. I can't stop doing that because otherwise it will not help with my comeback.

"I try to go all the time, but I am feeling very, very good. The injury is not difficult to manage, I just need to do my gym work and I do it all the time. I am okay.

"The gaffer just made the decision to put me on the bench. I don't know why, but I'm okay. I'm confident I will fully recover.

"I'm not young now, I'm 29. I'm not angry, I just wait for my time and even if it's just five minutes, I will try to do well for those five minutes.

"I will wait to see if I play against Arsenal. I'll work hard in training this week and see if the gaffer will play me."

Whatever happens at the Emirates Stadium, Cisse fulfilled the role of super-sub to the letter on Tyneside on Saturday as Newcastle weathered a battering at times before putting Jose Mourinho's men to the sword in an enthralling second half.

He had only been on the pitch for four minutes when his first opening arrived as defender Gary Cahill failed to cut out Sammy Ameobi's 57th-minute cross to provide him with a simple finish.

The home side looked to have sealed the win 12 minutes from time when, seconds after Eden Hazard's shot had come back off the post with substitute keeper Jak Alnwick beaten, Moussa Sissoko powered his way deep into enemy territory before sliding the ball into Cisse's path, and he nervelessly steered home a second.

There was, however, to be a late twist sparked by the 81st-minute exit of defender Steven Taylor following a second yellow card as substitute Didier Drogba headed home the resulting Cesc Fabregas free-kick to give the visitors hope.

However, despite their numerical disadvantage, Pardew's men held out for seven minutes of normal time and an agonising further six of added time to claim their third successive home league victory over Chelsea.

Cisse said: "I'm happy. It's been a good week, especially because it's been against Chelsea. If you come on in the second half and score two goals, you need to be happy.

"I say thank you to my team as well. It was a very important win for the team - nobody had won against Chelsea yet, but today Newcastle did it. It was not an easy game, so this gives us lots of confidence going forward.

"I'm very very happy. I say it all the time, but I am just doing my job. All the players are happy, the gaffer as well. The team is just happy because if all the fans are happy, the team is happy, so we are all just happy."

Victory, however, came at a cost with Rob Elliot, who was deputising for the injured Tim Krul, having aggravated a thigh problem which could sideline him for several weeks, skipper Fabricio Coloccini also struggling and Sissoko facing a one-match ban alongside Taylor after collecting a fifth booking of the season.

Leaders come unstuck on Tyneside

Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse came off the bench to condemn Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea to a first defeat of the season.

The Senegal international struck with his sixth goal of the season four minutes after replacing Remy Cabella, and then added a second 12 minutes from time.

Magpies defender Steven Taylor was dismissed for a second bookable offence and substitute Didier Drogba headed Jose Mourinho's men back into the game with seven minutes remaining to spark a desperate, but ultimately fruitless, late flurry.

It was Chelsea's third successive league defeat on Tyneside and left Mourinho still awaiting his first win in the competition at St James' Park.

Even the returning Diego Costa could not prevent a Newcastle victory as rookie goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, who had replaced the injured Rob Elliot at the break, denied he and then defender Felipe Luis at the end in front of a crowd of 52,019.

Chelsea arrived on Tyneside defending a 21-game unbeaten run since the start of the season and they began in ominous fashion with Newcastle's policy of allowing opponents possession in front of them and attempting to hit them on the break resulting in one-way traffic for much of the opening half-hour.

With Costa restored to the side after suspension and Oscar, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas buzzing about behind him, they were utterly dominant in the early stages.

After Willian had twice shot wide, Fabregas saw a 23rd-minute effort deflected past the post after Taylor had blocked Hazard's initial attempt, and Elliot had to save from Costa after Magpies midfielder Cheick Tiote had given the ball to Oscar.

But Newcastle finally found their feet and might have been ahead with 32 minutes gone when Thibaut Courtois blocked Jack Colback's shot with a foot.

As Moussa Sissoko started to drive the home side forward, the game opened up and Colback had to make a last-ditch challenge on Costa on halfway to deny the Spaniard a run on goal.

However, the visitors continued to threaten and Costa went just wide with an acrobatic overhead kick on the stroke of half-time.

Pardew was forced to make a change at the break when Elliot, deputising for the injured Tim Krul, failed to reappear and was replaced by 21-year-old Alnwick, making his senior debut for the club.

The newcomer's goal came under immediate threat with Paul Dummett and Taylor clearing low, driven Hazard crosses and Alnwick punching clear a Fabregas free-kick, flooring Costa in the process.

Pardew replaced midfielder Remy Cabella with Cisse eight minutes into the second half and the Magpies responded, although they were fortunate that John Obi Mikel powered a header wide from a Fabregas free-kick when he might have done better.

Newcastle took full advantage with 57 minutes gone when Gary Cahill failed to cut out Ameobi's left-wing cross and Cisse slid home from close range, his second goal in five days.

Sissoko could have doubled his side's advantage on the hour, but looped a header over after a Colback corner had been helped on at the near post.

Alnwick saved from substitute Andre Schurrle in the 62nd minute, before Mourinho sent on Luis and Drogba for Cesar Azpilicueta and Willian in a bid to inject fresh impetus into his team.

Chelsea hammered away at the Newcastle rearguard as it dropped ever deeper and Alnwick was grateful for the assistance of his left post to keep out Hazard's steered effort with 12 minutes remaining.

But their hopes of a comeback were dashed within seconds when the home side broke at pace for Sissoko to set up Cisse, who made no mistake.

Chelsea were given fresh hope with nine minutes remaining when Taylor, who had earlier been booked for a foul on Willian, lunged at Schurrle and was cautioned for a second time, and Drogba glanced the resulting free-kick past Alnwick to reduce the deficit.

But even with six minutes of stoppage time in which to find an equaliser, they were unable to deny the 10 men victory.

Pardew not concerned by fixtures

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew insists his team should fear no-one as they attempt to extend their remarkable run of form.

The Magpies climbed into the top five in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday evening as a result of a 1-0 victory over QPR, their fifth in succession in the league and sixth in all competitions.

That represents a remarkable turn-around for a manager who just a matter of weeks ago was facing concerted calls for his head from disgruntled fans.

The 53-year-old is keeping his feet firmly on the ground as he prepares for a December fixture list which includes clashes with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United as well as a derby showdown with Sunderland, although he is not unduly concerned by the task ahead.

Asked how important it was to have beaten QPR ahead of that tough schedule, Pardew said: "You could have argued that three games ago, four games ago.

"We had Manchester City and Liverpool and Spurs and we sailed through that, so don't look at the fixtures and think that there's anything that we can't deal with.

"It is a tough December, there's no doubt about that, but the team is in such a good place today, we were so disciplined today.

"I think anybody who recognises Premier League football and watches it on a regular basis would see that as a really powerful performance from a young team, so that was really good for us."

What was not so good for Pardew and his players was the sight of Ryan Taylor leaving the pitch in tears just 34 minutes into his first league start for 993 days, after fighting his way back from two cruciate ligament injuries.

The midfielder, who had arguably been the most influential player in the game until that point, could have been forgiven for fearing the worst when he slumped to the ground in some distress after anxiously flexing his knee, although he was able to walk to the dressing room.

By chance, the surgeon who operated on him, Richard Steadman, was among the crowd at St James' Park and accompanied him to hospital, and Taylor later allayed concerns over any significant damage via his Twitter account.

He tweeted: "Thank you all for your positive messages. I appreciate them all, just to let you know I have no major problem, and I had to come off today just to be on the safe side.

"I was just gutted to come off, that's why I got so emotional as I've worked so hard to get back. Thanks again."

The news will have allowed Pardew to enjoy his weekend after all with the manager having admitted Taylor's predicament had taken the edge of a hard-earned victory.

Newcastle enjoyed the better of the game, but were unable to make the pressure tell until 12 minutes from time when they finally broke the visitors' stubborn resistance, skipper-for-the-day Moussa Sissoko spinning on Sammy Ameobi's pass before shooting firmly past keeper Rob Green.

Substitute Papiss Cisse might have cemented the win in injury time after running on to Sissoko's beautiful reverse pass, but although his scuffed shot beat Green, former Magpie Joey Barton was able to clear before the ball crossed the line.

QPR left Tyneside bemoaning their luck after believing they were finally about to open their account away from home this season, but ultimately leaving with a sixth successive defeat which saw them slip to the foot of the table.

Defender Nedum Onuoha told the club's official website, www.qpr.co.uk: "Most of us thought we were in the game - we felt it was one of those games that was probably going to end in a draw, and then to concede when we did was a shame and we just couldn't come back from it.

"I believe we deserved a point because this is a team that had won five on the bounce and to be honest, overall we probably didn't have than many moments where we were under a great deal of pressure, so a point would have been something we were after. But it just didn't happen."

Pardew wants cool heads in derby

Pardew ponders emergency keeper

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew will today consider whether to make a fresh approach to the Premier League over whether he can sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby.

Following injuries to number one Tim Krul and back-up Rob Elliot, the Magpies have had to field inexperienced Jak Alnwick in recent matches.

Premier League rules prohibited Pardew from bringing in emergency loan cover, meaning the 21-year-old started the 4-1 loss at Arsenal and last night's 4-0 defeat to Tottenham.

Alnwick's error gifted Spurs the first goal of the Capital One Cup quarter-final and, worryingly, could be absent for Sunday's match against fierce rivals Sunderland.

A shoulder injury means the Magpies could have to rely on 17-year-old Freddie Woodman for the derby - a situation Pardew hopes to avoid by making another appeal to the Premier League.

"He has an injury to his shoulder so we're going to have to see," Pardew said of Alnwick.

"It is something we might have to look at tomorrow because there is no way that a 17-year-old [Freddie Woodman] - that's our fourth-choice - should be allowed to go in goal at this level.

"We will perhaps talk to the Premier League tomorrow about Jak's situation."

Asked if Alnwick's injury would have to be independently assessed before a loan was allowed, Pardew said: "I am not actually sure. I'd have to speak to the chief executive.

"The rules do allow you to have an emergency goalkeeper, I do know that, if you've only got one senior fit goalie.

"Freddie is classed as a senior even though he is 17 because he is a professional."

Pardew claims not to have thought about who he could bring in to help sort a goalkeeping situation, muddied further by the fact Newcastle have loaned Karl Darlow to Nottingham Forest.

Things look better further up the field, though, with Moussa Sissoko fit for the Sunderland match despite being withdrawn in the second half at White Hart Lane with a knock.

Papiss Cisse, Daryl Janmaat and Steven Taylor are in line to return at St James' Park, while Sammy Ameobi should be available and Cheick Tiote will be assessed.

As for Tottenham, Emmanuel Adebayor could return when they take on Burnley buoyed by a fine performance against the Magpies.

"It was fantastic," Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino said. "It was a fantastic night, a very good performance from the team.

"I am very happy because I think it was the first time that there was the relation between the team and supporters.

"It was brilliant at White Hart Lane and I enjoyed it a lot."

Asked if this was the best Spurs display since he took charge, Pochettino, whose side face Sheffield United in the semi-finals, said: "I don't know but maybe. Maybe.

"I think some games we played very well but this result was important for us.

"It was at home, it is in front of our supporters and we go to the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup.

"We know Tottenham have a lot of tradition in the cups and I think this victory is very important for us."

Cisse charged by FA

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse is facing a three-match ban after being charged with violent conduct by the Football Association for using his elbow on Everton's Seamus Coleman.

The FA's video review panel looked at the incident, which happened in Newcastle's 3-2 win on Sunday, and decided it was worthy of a charge and three-game ban.

Cisse has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond or else accept the ban which would begin with immediate effect.

If he accepts the charge, Cisse would miss the home match against Burnley on New Year's Day, the FA Cup third round trip to Leicester at the weekend, and then the visit to top-of-the-table Chelsea on January 10.

After Sunday's match Everton boss Roberto Martinez insisted Cisse should have been sent off for the "unacceptable" incident - especially as the striker went on to score.

Martinez said: "It is unacceptable, that action from Papiss Cisse.

"You don't want to see that on a football pitch, that shouldn't be allowed. Two players fighting for their position at a dead-ball situation and you end up deciding to take the law [into your own hands] by elbowing a fellow professional, it's unacceptable and that should have been a red card."

Pardew advice for Newcastle's Perez

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Alan Pardew has told blossoming star Ayoze Perez to work on his pace and power if he is to terrorise Barclays Premier League defences on a regular basis.

The 21-year-old frontman, who joined the club in a £1.5million switch from Tenerife during the summer, announced himself in style with winners against Tottenham and Liverpool after getting his chance because of injuries in October, and has not looked back since.

However, Pardew has been quick to play down suggestions he could be the next Alan Shearer or Andy Cole, and has identified the areas in which he needs to improve to make the next step.

Pardew said: "He has great technical ability and I have worked with great technical players before. He has the technique that top players have.

"Now we have to transfer that into a physical specimen that can handle this division without taking away his speed and agility. There is a balance there, but he has improved massively.

"It hasn't surprised me, the goals he's scored, because that's his strength. What has surprised me is some of his link-up play and movement. He also has clever, technical feet to get him out of tricky situations.

"That part of his game has surprised me a bit. He is not the complete package, but he is certainly a great prospect.

"He needs to improve his understanding of the game and his strength, both his speed and power. Retention of the ball is very important at this level and he needs to improve that too.

"But we are talking of a player who can do all that. It's not a million miles away for him. He is a goalscorer who loves scoring goals."

Pardew has been delighted with Perez's contribution to date, which could hardly have been more timely with summer singing Emmanuel Riviere injured and senior striker Papiss Cisse struggling to shake off a persistent knee problem in recent weeks.

However, while well aware of his potential, he is desperate to keep the youngster's feet on the ground, and is confident he has a willing learner on his hands.

He said: "He has burst on to the scene and we need to assess him more after three or four months. At the moment, all we can say is he is doing great, and long may that continue.

"He has the potential to be a player who can reach the very summit of the game, but he is right now a work in progress and the beauty of him is he knows that.

"It's not like he feels he is the complete player."

Perez is likely to get the nod at West Ham on Saturday as the Magpies go in search of a seventh successive victory, and some of Pardew's walking wounded could be back in harness.

Fabricio Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Cheick Tiote and Rolando Aarons have all trained this week - although keeper Tim Krul is understood to have suffered a knock - and some of them could be involved at Upton Park.

Pardew said: "It's a great boost because we have had a terrible run of injuries and it's testament to the squad that we have had a great run of results.

"It has been phenomenal and on the training ground this week, it has been really difficult to calm them down. They are on fire and are really enjoying their football."

Meanwhile, Pardew confirmed that Ryan Taylor's injury is not as series as was first feared, and that he could be back in business within weeks.

He said: "We think he will be back training in three to four weeks, which is great news for Ryan and good news for us."
