Andrew “LuckyChewy” Lichtenberger came away with the title and $2.1 million for winning the World Poker Tour Alpha8 $100K event at Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Lichtenberger bested a field of 55 players who bought into the event for six figures, creating a prize pool of nearly $5.4 million. The win was by far the biggest ever for Lichtenberger, who once was an online specialist before racking up $4 million in lifetime earnings in live tourneys (before this huge score).
Lichtenberger beat out Tom Marchese, who won $1.2 million for second place. This was the third seven-figure score for Marchese this year, as he has first-place and third-place finishes in other $100K buy-in events.
The final hand came on a coinflip where the chips went in preflop, with Lichtenberger holding Q9s against Marchese’s pair of eights. Lichtenberger hit a flush on the turn to take the win.
The top six players in the event cashed. Phil Laak made it to final day as the short stack but was eliminated in eighth place. Here were the payouts from the final table:
1st: Andrew Lichtenberger – $2,104,245
2nd: Tom Marchese – $1,240,965
3rd: Brian Rast – $755,370
4th: Noah Schwartz – $539,550
5th: Jason Les – $431,630
6th: Bryn Kenney – $323,730
