The Coventry-born rider finished sixth after defying both doctors’ orders and the pain from a badly sprained left ankle to beat a host of riders, including Ducati’s nine-times world champion Valentino Rossi.
Crutchlow, who had started from 20th on the grid after spending most of Saturday in hospital following a crash, passed Ducati’s American Nicky Hayden on the final lap.
The 26 year-old admitted afterwards that the whole experience had been draining. “It’s been a tough weekend,” Crutchlow said. “Missing two hours of track time to these guys is a disaster so I’m pleased. I’m just emotionally drained.
“They told me I wasn’t allowed to ride at the hospital. So I left the hospital, lied a little bit when we got to the circuit and the medical staff did great here.”
Sixth place moved Crutchlow back up to fourth in the championship after his Monster Tech 3 Yamaha team-mate Andrea Dovizioso pulled out when challenging for a podium spot.

Lorenzo, who last week signed a new two-year contract with Yamaha, moved further ahead of Australia’s Casey Stoner in the standings with a comfortable win. The Spaniard is 25 points ahead of the 2011 champion.
Lorenzo made a poor start and dropped to sixth, but he worked his way to the front where he battled with Stoner. The lead changed hands five times in half a lap before Lorenzo pulled away.
Stoner just about managed to hold Pedrosa for second place, with the pole man Alvaro Bautista missing out on a podium spot on the San Carlo Gresini Honda.
Fifth place went to Ben Spies on the second factory Yamaha, ahead of Crutchlow, Nicky Hayden (Ducati), Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda), Rossi and Héctor Barberá (Pramac Ducati).
Lorenzo has 140 points, Stoner 115, Pedrosa 101 and Crutchlow 66.
