Sean O'Driscoll, England coach
In the first half we had enough chances to put the game to bed, but Belgium defended well and they're a very good team. We had two games where we scored a lot of goals – and that was the difference. No English Under-19 side has ever won this competition so this is the first step to becoming European champions. Our goal is to develop a sort of club atmosphere at an international level.
Gert Verheyen, Belgium coach
It was a good game and both sides showed a lot of quality. I know my players can do well and they showed it today. I'm disappointed, though, because we didn't deserve to lose. I know my players well and they did their best, so I'm proud of them. Our mission was to get through this stage knowing there will be a lot of quality to contend with in the elite round. England were very strong tonight.
Elite round draw: 3 December
